Hello everyone!
For your first easy assignment, comment on this post with the following:
Your name.
Your status in acquiring the textbooks.
Your experience (or lack of) with the visual arts.
What you hope to learn from this class.
Do this by Monday 6/23 to avoid getting an email from me checking up on you.
Your first real assignment will be posted on that Monday as well, so check back or follow this blog.
Thanks!

ReplyDelete3/3 textbooks acquired
As for experience, I have been a Visual arts major since 6th grade and I took an Art History in 9th grade.
This coming school year, I hope to learn how to be more concise as well as descriptive when it comes to formal analysis, learn historically in depth, and symbolism.
Austin Pennington
ReplyDeleteI have all 3 textbooks
I took one year of Digital Media and Imaging
I hope to be able to learn how to appreciate art and understand paintings beyond a superficial appreciation for nice colors or fancy looks.
Mabel D'Souza
ReplyDeleteAll three texbooks should be here Monday.
I have never taken an art history or visual arts class in high school.
I hope to be able to appreciate pieces within their historical context and learn new things about methods and materials used to create amazing works of art.
Jordan Breen
ReplyDeleteI got all three books from Morgan Wood
I've been a major in Visual arts for what like now wow, and I took Art History with you two years ago.
Mostly I hope to learn in depth about the most game changing art of it's time, as well as to get a good solid "art timeline" if you will. Not only that, but I also want to feel that sense of community that last years AP Art History students talked about.
I can't wait! :)
*five years now oops :)

ReplyDeleteI don't have any of the textbooks yet
I've been a visual major since 6th grade and I took art history in 9th.
In this class, I want to learn about how to write better formal analyses and to just learn more history in general because that's pretty fun I guess.
Celena Gentry
ReplyDeleteI SHOULD have all of the textbooks by this Friday.
I have never taken a visual class and have no background in the application of visual arts. However, I have taken 2 years of Digital Media and Imaging (as well as a third year next year) and have taken AP European History which has given me a background in Art as far as time periods go.
I really want to get a better understanding of art so that I can better appreciate pieces and how they influence society. I am especially intrigued by the history part of this class. I LOVE history and I'm super excited to learn about how different things in history have influenced art etc.... I'm so excited! :)

ReplyDeleteI've ordered all three textbooks
I've taken three years of Digital Media and Imaging
I want to be able to appreciate art just beyond its appearance. I love history as well and would just like to be able to look at a work of art and be able to know where it came from and all the work that went into it.
My name is Ariel Friedlander.
ReplyDeleteI orders my book on amazon but none have arrived yet, which is concerning, but they should be here in a few days.
I have been a visual arts major for 5 years and have took art history freshmen year. I also like to study art history in my spare time.
I'd like to expand my artistic knowledge to help me possibly pursue art history in college, push my art and just have fun learning. As Jordan said, I'd love to get that sense of community previous AP art history students always talk about. I also would like to know how to further analyze periods of art, and gain deeper knowledge in the field.
I'm so pumped!

ReplyDeleteI don't have my books yet but they should be in next week.
I am lacking experience in art history and visual arts but I draw/paint often.
I am looking forward to learning how to analyze works of art and understanding their historical context and cultural significance. I would also like to learn the different methods of artistic expression throughout history.
Richie Kimball
ReplyDeleteI have all three of the textbooks.
I have no experience in the visual arts, and this will be the first class I will take that involves visual arts.
This year I hope to learn the effect art had on history and vice versa and the different styles of art that prevailed in different areas and eras in history. I'd also like to be able to look at art and see more than what's presented on the surface.
Connie Zheng
ReplyDeleteI have 2/3 of the books, the third one is coming.
I was a visual major throughout middle school (I went to Cab) and just took Visual Arts Foundations I.
I hope to learn about how social and political shifts throughout history effect art, as well as where art is going in the future. I'd also like to learn how to analyze art art in it's context historically, and how to put more thought into viewing art in general.
And to end any confusion, I had to make my name backwards because for some reason Google wouldn't accept my actual name.

ReplyDeleteI have all three books
I have been a visual major at cab since 6th grade and I have taken art history in 9th grade.
I hope to be able to expand my knowledge of art history in this class as well as be able to apply art history to other subjects or even future essays for exams or collage entrances.

ReplyDeleteI do not have any of the books, but after I type this up I am heading to my local bookstore to order them!
I have very little experience in the visual arts. I have experimented a little in photography, but I am a rank amateur.
For the past few years I have had an interest in art, particularly that of Europe, but my knowledge has been limited to a few select artists and time periods. With this class, I hope to remove my ignorance and understand the language of art.
1. All three books should come within the next week or so
ReplyDelete2.I have no experience with visual art or art analysis.
3. I hope to gain experience and knowledge to understand and appreciate art. I hope to one day walk into a museum and be able to comprehend the specialities of different pieces and forms of art.

ReplyDeleteI don't have any of the books yet, but they should be coming in soon.
I have been a visual major at cab for 2 years, starting from when I came here freshman year. However, i've been really into art for basically my entire life. I also took art history freshman year, and that awesome experience inspired me to take AP art history.
This year, I hope to gain a lot of new and more in depth knowledge about art throughout history. I want to use this new information to help inspire my own art and hopefully become a better, more well rounded artist. By the end of the course, I also want to be able to blow anyone's mind who attends any kind of art museum with me :)

ReplyDelete1. 3/3 books acquired
2. I don't really have too much experience besides AP Euro knowledge so I am a newbie basically
3. I hope to gain an appreciation to the art around me and in history and take a class that really perks my interests. I want to actually know what kind of building I'm standing in when I visit ruins and be able to know the age of a painting by it's use of light. Should be good

2. I have no experience in visual art.
3. I very much love art, so in taking this class, I hope to sharped my understanding and further my appreciation.
I'm going to get them from the library this week !!
ReplyDeleteI've been a visual major since 6 grade and learned a lot through AP studio last year !! And I'm exciting to learn more by taking that class again this year !!
I really hope to be more advanced with art because I'm leading towards becoming an art teacher and I know that this class will be very beneficial in that area. Honestly I'm not that exciting to learn about architectural but I have an opened mind. I do want to learn about all the different types of art and be more familiar with the techniques and concepts from throughout time. Also I think that studying the history of art will make me a overall better artist. I heard only great things from this class and I'm nervous about the work ethic but more exciting to learn about my favorite subject in the whole world :) !!!
